Wait just one darn minute before reading any further. Do you know the story of Hamlet; the deaths, the tragedy, the love and the revenge? And did you see any promotion material of this movie? If the first question is answered with ‘Yes’ and the second question with a ‘No’, then this movie might be fun for you. Is Hamlet a stranger to you, do not worry! And if you have seen any promotion materials then chances are you will not enjoy the movie as much as you have expected.

THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL is a remake of the classic film, which dates back to 1951, only this time we get to see Keanu “Wooow” Reeves as the big bad alien, who tells us we are all doomed and are going to die. Was the original movie about the Cold War, the remake is more centered on the humans destroying earth due to their way of living. So does the remake bring us anything worthwhile?

With MY BEST FRIEND’S GIRL actor / comedian Dane Cook gets another chance to star in a “big movie”. EMPLOYEE OF THE MONTH was his first major role and we all know how that ended up. Now for those who do not know Dane Cook I would seriously suggest to go to YouTube first and watch some of his acts and shows. Dane Cook is a stand-up comedian from the US. His humor often is the so called “observational comedy” and you can notice some influences of Denis Leary, Richard Pryor and George Carlin.

BURN AFTER READING is one of those movies you only go see if you know or read about it. I cannot even recall seeing a poster or trailer about it. But when the brothers Coen do make something, I am always there to see it. They have already brought us great movies like THE BIG LEBOWSKI or the more recently NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. And with names like George Clooney, Frances McDormand, John Malkovich, Tilda Swinton and Brad Pitt, the decision to go was easily made. (Also I see movies at our local theater for free, so that helps as well). But not to praise the brothers Coen too much, we also know they can deliver us crap movies too, like INTOLERABLE CRUALTY or THE LADYKILLERS.

QUANTUM OF SOLACE is the next movie in the line of Bond movies. And if I stand correct it is the 22nd Bond movie for us all to enjoy. Dubbed as the most expensive Bond movie made with a great Bond girl who actually has some balls, I just had to go see it as soon as possible…

Usually I watch cool movies with cool people, scary movies with scary people (ie. my girlfriend) and romantic movies well… also with my girlfriend. But this time I was forced to go watch the latest creation of Pixar & Disney with one of my friends (one of the cool people). Now I am not sure if this is a bad thing, but he was desperate to see Waaaallllll-EEE and to this day I keep annoying him with the lovely sound this robot makes when pronouncing his name.

Just to clear things up before I get started. This movie is not a sequel to MEET THE PARENTS or MEET THE FOCKERS. THE STRANGERS is a horror slash thriller. I am not quite sure why the slash, but “the general public” thinks that this movie contains some spooky unexplainable beings doing evil stuff (and by evil stuff we mean killing people). In my book this movie would be filed under thriller, but I will get to that in just a moment.

After being violently pressured to do some actual reviewing, this reporter was send to a local theater armed with a pencil and a flashlight and asked to give some kind of insightful commentary on one of this year’s lesser seen comic book adaptations: THE INCREDIBLE HULK. This latest example of Marvel Studio’s push to streamline their various franchises in one single definite universe picks up where Ang Lee’s 2003 “quote” artyfarty “unquote” depiction of the superhero left us bored and suicidal. With cinematic auteur Lee now replaced by whoever directed THE TRANSPORTER 2, THE TRANSPORTER 3, and the even worse DANNY THE DOG and with a completely refreshed star line-up, THE INCREDIBLE HULK forgoes the character-focused slow paced set-up of the 2003 version for straight-forward HULK! SMASH! action. Now, there was certainly enough wrong with the angst-y introvert emo execution of our green hero in the first movie, so a bit of readjustment in that area probably wasn’t a bad idea. But, while HULK at least ended up being a small beacon of originally in the decaying wastelands that make up a majority of comic book movie genre, THE INCREDIBLE HULK flies us straight back to the plains of mediocrity and cliché. The film never succeeds in conjuring up real emotions or any sense of immersion and instead just uncomfortably and unconvincingly tries to go through the motions like an aging prostitute with mysophobia.
